-The Time for YOU to Take Action is NOW!–
Dear Fellow Childbirth Worker,
About 12 years ago I had my first home birth with 3 midwives and an apprentice by my side. A second followed 19 months later. With each birth, I felt empowered, whole, part of a deep sisterhood. At first I was excited to hear other women’s birth stories, but soon I became shocked to find so many were dark and shame-filled.
Over the years I have heard thousands of birth stories and many have moved me, but there was one story that really changed the course of my career. Almost 6 years ago I met Angela. Angela was a business woman and when she came to me she was in a very fragile state. I’d even say she was in a state of Post Traumatic Stress. She had given birth just a few weeks before I met her so the story was very raw.
She told me how she had met a doula in the last days of her pregnancy but that her family forbade the doula from attending the birth. She explained how she hid in the hospital bathroom on the phone with her doula and how she begged not to get the epidural, but was told by a family member that if she didn’t she would be “killing her baby.”
Angela did get the epidural but it failed and she was forced to have a C-section. After removing the baby, the doctor said to her, “See, don’t you wish we just scheduled the C-section to start with so you didn’t have to go through labor for nothing?”
Hearing that story was one of those times that I knew I had to do something.
It was time to do more to help women who simply don’t have the tools to put themselves at the center of their birth. I’ve spent over a decade studying the elements required to create that shift in moms, and over the last 5 years I have developed a systematic program that turns the trend of unconscious births around and gives expectant moms, like Angela, the tools they need to have the birth they deserve.
Doulas, midwives, childbirth educators, and birth advocates face a daunting challenge. Women want you to guarantee a perfect birth and yet few doulas have the skills, knowledge, or systems in place to do that.
If you asked me what was the one thing that got me through my homebirth…it wasn’t candles, or massage, or music…it was ME. There was so much faith in me and my body and I was left ALONE to do what I had to do. I was the best tool for myself. It was amazing and empowering. A woman needs to learn to speak up…advocate for herself and her body.”
“The woman expects doulas and midwives to just POOF make a magical birth happen.”
“I work with women who want to have out of hospital births and I still see them not taking accountability prenatally for their pregnancy and birth. It amazes and horrifies me. They believe if they just “trust birth” that is enough. It’s so unrealistic and idealistic. There are so many things they overlook because they just focus on the birth process, not on pregnancy or postpartum. It drives me nuts. It drives me nuts. It shows they lack the ability to take responsibility and ownership.”
“You need to do your own research and be held accountable. You need to learn to be your own advocate and find your voice.” But before FEAR to FREEDOM™, she didn’t say that because she didn’t have the TOOLS! Now that she knows how to teach women to put themselves at the center of their birth experience, she can communicate this message gently and she knows she’ll get through.
That’s why I created FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth and why I want to invite you to join others who work with expectant moms to show women how to speak up and advocate for herself and her body, without being manipulative. You will see how the change comes from an authentic place inside the women you are working with. Many FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth Facilitators say the transformation is nothing short of miraculous.
I hate hearing stories of women saying they went into the hospital with a low-risk pregnancy, followed the doctor’s orders, and then ended up frustrated they had to have a c-section. Do you hear these stories too? It’s heart-breaking and we can do something about it!
You know what really gets me? So many smart women never make the connection that accepting all the medical interventions without questioning is part of what landed them in a bad situation. What’s worse is that many times they actually are grateful that the doctor saved them!
Through my play and my work as a writer, I’ve collected and archived hundreds of birth stories and what I’ve found is shocking:
Not only are mothers resigned to comply with doctor’s orders, but many, like Angela, were actually forced.
What’s worse? They didn’t even know it.
It was like most women had been convinced in order to have a healthy baby, they needed to do exactly what the doctors, hospitals, and insurance companies said was best.
To keep their baby safe, they built their own prison, complete with bars, chains and shackles. It was the pain – and not the joy of birth – that I’ve found sometimes created a tiny window to let a little light through, but only a few women allowed themselves to notice it.
“I was under the belief staying in that prison and ignoring my body and my voice was the closest I could get to a guarantee I’d have a healthy baby. It seemed like a fair trade.”
Of course these aren’t physical prisons, they are prisons of the mind. Prisons from which few women ever try to escape. (To be honest, I don’t even think they know escaping is a possibility.)
Want to know what’s ironic?
As you can imagine, women from all over the world share their birth stories with me.
When they tell their stories, women often complain about their bodies inadequacies, their own bad luck, their inability to stand up to pressure from friends, family and partners, even insurance company regulations, frustrating procedures and heartless medical professionals, all without realizing they were the one who put themselves in a (psychological) prison, and they have the key to escape!
When I work with pregnant women today, I always explain that the key to freedom during pregnancy is always right there, hanging on a black iron key-ring on a hook on the cell wall.

I have learned how to help women see the key for themselves.Once they discover it’s there, it takes a while to find the courage to try the lock. But as they find their voice and connect with their body a natural urge to take action takes over. Once women have the key in their hand, they become accountable for their own happiness in their pregnancy and start to look inside, rather than out, for the guarantees and assurances they need to face the challenge of labor.
Of course, as they decide to break free and put the key in the hole, they drop it at least a dozen times. They will need guidance to stay connected until the time when they will put the key in the hole, and it will turn “just right” and the door opens! RELIEF!
For many women, freedom and joy during pregnancy seems out of reach because of their fear around labor which drives them to be disconnected, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Freedom is attainable when birth workers like doulas and childbirth educators can learn to teach women to overcome their fear and fully embrace the feminine.
Here’s what some of our FEAR to FREEDOM™ students envision freedom looks like for expectant women:
Envision a world where women are in charge of their birth choices; where fear is replaced with strength and wisdom. – Charlotte Scott
***
Envision women knowing their own strength and power and knowing they can birth and the doctor isn’t going to do it all for them!!– Elizabeth Bain
***
Envision a world where birth is undisturbed and women are supported in making their decisions for their birth. They are directed from within instead of led by those who have replaced their inner voice, limiting their choices into the unknown. – Teresa Howard
***
Envision a world where women truly LOVE themselves, believe in the power that loves in their body and soul, and where they birth in this. I imagine all the people supporting them seeing this power, loving them, and doing whatever it takes to help support women bring babies into this world in love and peace. - Kristin Paga
***
Envision a world where women took responsibility for their bodies and their births and never expected someone else to take the driver’s seat or be their savior. – Angela Miki
Doulas and Childbirth Educators are under tremendous pressure to “give” women a good birth. The truth is, this is an impossible goal!
Pregnant moms already have the power inside themselves that they are looking to the medical community, and even to doulas and childbirth educators for. Once they believe their shoes can take them home, the birth professionals they work with become guides and mentors instead of lifelines and magicians.
Now that I’ve created the FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth system and made it available to all birth workers, you can learn for yourself how to break expectant moms out of their self-imposed prisons. So many people who work with expectant moms are expected to be the savior – and you can save your clients – but not by fixing their situation. Instead you can be a savior by giving them the tools they need to learn how to make conscious choices and to find their real power.
When you are certified as a FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth Facilitator, you’ll be able to teach your clients that they have a power within themselves – in their bodies – that they can tap into at any time during their pregnancy and birth no matter the circumstance.
Expectant moms need someone to talk to and often family, friends and partners don’t feel safe.
They are told to keep their focus on the baby and not to worry. They are reminded ‘women give birth everyday.’ They are told ‘don’t be scared,’ and lead to believe they are worrying for no reason that ‘it can’t be that bad.’
People like you are the people pregnant women feel safe talking to, but unfortunately if you are like most birth workers, you know a lot about the physiology of birth and about pain relief techniques, but you haven’t really been trained on how to talk women through their fears and how to create a space where they can find their inner power.
It reminds me of what one of my certified FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth Facilitators, Aimee Brill, told me. Here’s some of what Aimee said:
“As a childbirth educator, I have been trained in several different modalities. Yet, after each training program was completed I always experienced this nagging feeling that something was missing from the course. A light REALLY went off for me with FEAR to FREEDOM™. As a NYC childbirth educator, I was constantly challenged by my students who wanted “comprehensive evidence-based research”. Please know, I LOVE knowledge and think it has its place, but I started questioning this model of education.
I felt that my students were afraid of being afraid. And like so many of us, we’ve been taught to avoid feeling our fear and push it away with more knowledge, more control, and more answers. I have always felt that the deeper invitation and possibility is for them to EMPTY INTO being.
I have been trying to do this with my couples and mamas on my own, and now I feel that I finally have an amazing set of tools to tap into the language and power of women.
Now that I am teaching through the intuitive soul, body, and heart–not just the thinking questioning mind – I see how my clients are released from their fear and able to birth from a place of freedom and faith in themselves.”
This is not a typical certification program where you are given a ton of information and expected to figure out what to do with it. In this program, I take you by the hand and show you exactly, step-by-step how to put what you learn into action.
Not only does the FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth certification program include information you won’t find anywhere else, but the approach to the training will give you everything you need to put the information to use and to increase your revenue if you choose.
As a certified FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth facilitator, you can instantly begin transforming the birth culture by teaching pregnant women how to reclaim their freedom and give birth with clarity and confidence no matter what the circumstances are.
You will find as a Certified FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth Facilitator, your life and your client’s lives will positively change in ways that you never even imagined.
If you have ever wanted to make a big difference in the world of birth and be part of a movement to lead women to a free and empowered birth experience no matter who their doctor or insurance company is, this program is jam-packed with 12 classes, 20 audio recordings, 8 videos, and over 73 training documents containing the information you’ve been craving to free your clients from an unconscious birth.
As a participant, you’ll discover the amazing secrets of how to move women from scared to empowered in the face of their labor and delivery. You’ll love watching your clients as they connect to their body, their voice, and ultimately begin to take action and move into a leading role in their birth.
Imagine, for a moment, that it’s six months from today and you are a Certified FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth Facilitator. How will your life be different?
Can I make you a promise?
I’ve trained and coached lots of women but this is my first certification program. I didn’t want to create this program if I wasn’t sure it would help doulas, childbirth educators, and others who wanted to help put women at the center of their own birth. After testing the program with 31 pre-launch students the verdict was overwhelming: this product will teach you how to literally change the way most women think about their births.
I promise.
If you are a busy midwife, doula, or birth advocate wrestling with a complicated schedule I am committed to making it easy for you to discover everything you need to empower women and help take them from FEAR to FREEDOM™ in their births. The course is available anytime in our private FEAR to FREEDOM™ student center.
By now, you know about my play BIRTH. It’s been seen by tens of thousands of people around the world and performances of BIRTH have helped to raise almost $1,000,000 to improve maternity care around the world.
I’ve learned a lot about expectant moms and the needs of childbirth workers but that’s not the only reason you should listen to me.
Before writing my play I trained as a doula myself so I know what challenges doulas face. I have also founded several advocate groups in addition to BOLD, including Arkansas Citizens for Midwives and the Takoma Birthing Circle (now called Birth Options Alliance), so I understand what challenges midwives and birth advocates face.
And I am a trained Yoga Nidra instructor with iRest (Integrative Restoration Institute) so I understand the challenges Prenatal Yoga Instructors face.
I’ve been where you are and I’ve been frustrated with moms that just don’t seem to get it. I’ve had my boundaries pushed and I’ve felt like giving up because working with people who put all the responsibility on you is exhausting. But I’ve been fortunate that my training led me to develop the FEAR to FREEDOM™ Body, Voice, Action Method and I’ve seen first-hand how quickly and effectively it helps women connect to their truth and live their best life and I want to share what I’ve learned with you.
Taking women from FEAR to FREEDOM™ is simple; regardless of whether you currently tend to work with empowered clients or not.
In the program there are detailed and specific suggestions as to how to create intensive weekend workshops, one-on-one coaching packages, an extended series of classes, or just incorporate the F2F techniques into your current training.

“Doing this training I feel more and more empowered as a birth educator, but also as a woman…. so our empowerment is something we can pass on to pregnant woman… to find theirs!”
What I’m offering in this certification program is the opportunity to change the culture of birth one woman at a time WITHOUT requiring any changes from government, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, or doctors.
In order accommodate the unpredictability of birth which affects many of our students schedules, as well as the different times zones, I am offering the classes as MP3 recordings you can listen to at your convenience in our private online student area.

To get your certification you must also complete a 2 hour practical exam which is a live class you will teach. This is a program that goes at your pace. It can be completed in a few weeks or spread out over a year. The recommended time to complete is 12 – 24 weeks.
In fact, to encourage you to complete the program within 24 weeks we are waiving the $250 certification fee if you complete your certification within 6 months of starting the training.
This is a course for someone who believes at their core that the culture of birth can and must change.
Traditional childbirth education has its place, but is has not fully spoken to you. You want more: personal, depth, and tools not just to fill pregnant women’s minds, but also their hearts, souls, and beyond.
You want pregnant women to take responsibility for their births and not rely on you to give them the perfect birth. You seek to offer something deeper than standard birth plans and medical advice.
Congratulations. You have found it.
This training program was created so you can change the culture of birth and practice birth work the way you want to.
Come along with me. Take the FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth journey. I invite you to make a commitment to your self and to changing the culture of birth.
I love this work
love it
love it
love it
my soul has been hungry for this.
- Teresa Worthy Howard

One last story.
Sandy walked into her first birth completely unconscious. She got pregnant and throughout her pregnancy she saw an obstetrician who she didn’t like, but she just kept telling herself her birth is just one day.
To quote Sandy:
How bad could it be to be around someone I don’t like for one day?
Sandy confesses that she never thought about her birth experience much except to have what all her colleagues at work were having which was an epidural. The day before she went into labor her doctor told her, “This is going to be a big baby. Definitely an 8- pounder!” That wasn’t comforting to Sandy but still she thought: birth is just one day.
So she goes into labor, rushes into the hospital, throws up, they tell her she’s 4 centimeters and she gets an epidural. She never thought to say no to it. Everyone she knew was getting it. She slept for the first 5 hours of her epidural.
Then they gave her pitocin to speed up the labor and it took another 18 hours to get to 10 centimeters.
All this time she was just lying in bed waiting to push. When she got to 10 centimeters the doctor came in and in a commander’s voice told her:
This is what I want you to do. Open your legs. No, wider…no, wider. You can do better than that.
Sandy was confused. She couldn’t feel a thing. She didn’t know how to push. The nurses and doctors were counting and shouting at her to “push!” “breathe!”, then “don’t push!” She was absolutely overwhelmed. When they’d say push her gut told her to stand and when she told the doctor this he said: “You can’t stand. You’ve had an epidural.” She knew she couldn’t stand, but in her mind she wanted to stand. And then suddenly, after pushing for a while the doctor says, “The baby’s heartbeat is dropping. We’re going to prep for a c-section.” But Sandy says she wants to push and then the doctor says:
You can’t push. This baby could be 11 pounds! You can’t push an 11-pound baby out!
So she has the c-section. And complications after the c-section – a paralyzed bowel. And guess what was the baby’s weight? Six pounds, 6 ounces.
This is the kind of unnecessary abuse that can happen when a woman births from a place of unconsciousness and fear. Together we can empower women so that they stand up and say no to this abuse. But to make that shift happen, you need the training.
Ask yourself:
- Do you have the tools to help someone like Sandy?
- Do you know how to get mothers to take control of their own power during birth?
- Are you making the strongest possible contribution to changing the way birth is done in your community?
You’ve only got one life and you’ve decided to use it for a noble cause. Today is the day you need to take that commitment to the next level.
Becoming certified as a FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth facilitator will shake things up. You will have new tools to help your current clients, ideas for attracting new clients, and additional services for pregnant women that you can add to your current offerings.
Sandy went through her personal FEAR to FREEDOM™ process.
Three years later when she got pregnant again she announced she wanted to have a VBAC – a vaginal birth after cesarean. After her first birth she switched OB/GYN’s immediately to one who said he would support a VBAC.
But once she was with him she began to sense her doctor was not in support of her VBAC desires. At one office visit when she was pregnant he measured her belly and said, “Wow. You’re measuring big. This is going to be a big baby, probably 9 pounds.” This time instead of accepting his opinion she looks at the doctor and says: Prove it. Prove to me that my baby is 9 pounds.
Sandy made a bold move and switched to hospital-based midwives. At 38 weeks the midwife did her prenatal visit at Sandy’s home and when she felt her baby and Sandy asked how big the baby was she said: I’d say about 8 pounds, 2 ounces. Sandy went into labor the next week. Her doula prepped the nurses that Sandy had had a traumatic first birth and as a result the labor and delivery nurses were extra sweet to her. Sandy’s birth was intense, but normal.
At one point the hospital anesthesiologist came in and asked her if she wanted an epidural. She listened and then she told him to get out. “Get out and don’t come back!”
Her baby came out vaginally shortly after. It weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces, one ounce different than what the midwife predicted.
Sandy said at the end – she felt like “Superwoman.”
Her two birth stories have so many wonderful examples of a pregnant mother moving from FEAR to FREEDOM™. That is the kind of transformative effect you could be having on your clients and on women you wouldn’t have met if you didn’t offer this program.
Please don’t let another woman have an unnecessary c-section like Sandy and Angela.
As Sandy’s VBAC story shows, when a woman is empowered, she can keep her internal power switch on and for many create the birth experience they want. You can make that possible.
I am here to take you by the hand and share with you every shred of knowledge I possess to get you through the program and out in the world changing women’s lives… so… if you’re serious about wanting to change the culture of birth and if you are sick of having clients that expect you to sprinkle pixie dust over their birth experience while they blame everyone else for things not going perfectly, register for the next class today.
There are a limited number of seats in each class and once we hit that number we will have to stop taking enrollments so sign up today to guarantee you get your spot. Every class so far has sold out. I don’t want you to miss this opportunity, so please sign up today.

P. S. I can almost hear you thinking “This is a great idea, I need to come back to it later when I have more time.” But I really want to encourage you not to wait. Here’s why -
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, about 8 babies are born each minute. That means every minute you wait to sign up for FEAR to FREEDOM™ Birth, 8 women lose the opportunity to leave the prison of their mind and have an empowered birth.
Angela and Sandy were those women who fell through the cracks and it took them years to find their way out. Don’t wait.
The ripple effect of a decision so monumental as how a woman gives birth spans generations and changes the world forever.

It's easy to blame doctors and insurance companies, but the heart of the problem with birth in America is that women don't know how to put themselves at the center of their birth.
In looking for answers outside of themselves they put pressure on doulas and childbirth educators to do the impossible - guarantee a "perfect" birth. The answer comes from making the body-voice-action connection. I will show you techniques to inspire your clients to take a starring role in their own birth experience.

"Karen’s work transformed my very soul! I held hands with other women who I knew nothing of...we danced, cried, laughed, and honoured ourselves in a way that completed me. A sisterhood. I found my femininity and evoked in myself a voice that sang “FINALLY!” Karen helped me find my authentic voice. My entire being embraced that message. A simple message…trust. Trust that my instincts are valid. Karen’s techniques had a unique and mysterious way of opening up thought processes that balance on intuition…the very foundation I needed to embark upon my journey towards my authentic self! Every grandmother, mother, daughter, and most especially pregnant woman should be supported by the work of Karen Brody.”

"Since working with Karen, my transformation has been moving forward at hyper speed, it seems. I have been feeling a huge amount of emotion and have used the body, voice, action method just about daily to center myself. It truly works because it honors each woman’s unique perspective and allows her to create her own empowered birth experience. Karen’s work is exactly what I needed and it is precisely the kind of teaching I’d love to offer to guide pregnant women toward empowering themselves to trust their intuition. I felt an almost geek-like admiration for what she’s created right from the start. As I progressed through the course, I realized how valuable the practices are, not only for birth preparation, but for any important life transition.”

"The FEAR to FREEDOM™ method is a way to teach women to be more connected with their bodies and voices in order to have a more empowered birth experience. It’s been an incredible journey for me, as well, in all aspects of my life as I have been learning from each weekly module and practicing the techniques with my clients. The real gift has been to actually witness women become more in touch with themselves, their “True Nature”, and to watch them “keep their internal power switch on” during birth! With every woman I work I maintain a nonjudgmental approach as I support them, one breath/contraction at a time, as they unfold their own birth experience. It’s been an amazing gift to watch women choose their own birth experience.”
